question and answer
Greetings to everyone and I hope my email finds you healthy, happy and enjoying everyday.
Question and Answers on your Health:
Question: My doctor says that I don’t need vitamins and all I am creating is expensive urine.
Answer: This has been the bumper sticker philosophy that has been repeated for decades by those uninformed about the true potential of nutrition. Evidence is now so overwhelming on the proper therapeutic use of nutrients that anyone who does not embrace this science will be left behind in the coming years. Did you know that the spine of a grizzly bear is 80% oceanic calcium? This means that we are made of the products we consume and the bear in some ways really comes from the salmon it eats. In the same way your human cells over time are constructed totally of the food, liquid and nutrients you consume. This makes me think carefully of what I put into my body.
Question: What do you consider the BEST exercise for the body?
Answer: There is no one best exercise because it needs to be catered to the person’s individual needs. I sponsored Jack Lalanne several years ago and brought him to Chattanooga and he is the perfect epitome of the positive effects of exercise. He told me that moving everyday where the lungs and muscles get worked is the most important part of health, regardless of how it is done. I personally love Pilates as one method of exercise and I am excited to announce we now have a very skilled Pilates teacher, (Heather Simmons Alexander) available at our location. For more information log onto www.alexanderpilates.org or call 423-544-5247. She is offering one session for half price in March.
Question: What are some of the options for stress management using natural remedies?
Answer: I first advise people to look at improving sleep by doing the following: go to bed on time every night, totally dark room, no snoring dogs. If you have early morning awakenings where you cannot go back to sleep, consider taking 1000mg tryptophane for improved serotonin every night. (unless you are taking anti-depressants) (Also make sure you do not have sleep apnea and if you do I recommend Dr Chandra) Second is eating 3 meals and 1 to 2 snacks daily. Going too long without eating creates a biochemistry nightmare involving cortisol, insulin and blood sugar which causes adrenal fatigue, weight gain, and altered brain chemistry. Third is taking something that cleanses the liver. I know this sounds strange but a congested liver truly alters the way your brain operates and lessens our ability to handle stress. We must always respect the web like effect of health and how nothing in our body truly operates on its own. Fourth is taking a good brand of fish oils to reduce inflammation and improve brain function. Fifth is exercise which I don’t have to tell you how important this is.
Lastly, I want to tell you about a one time opportunity to listen to a physician who has tremendous knowledge, experience and skill in stress and holistic therapies. Dr Grace Ormstein has practiced in psychiatry, pediatrics, and naturopathic medicine. She will be here speaking on Natural ways to treat stress on Wednesday April 21st at 6pm on the lower level of Nutrition World.
Question: What are the best ways to keep my pets healthy?
Answer: The same exact thing it takes for us. Reduce toxins in our diet and environment, giving the body the best nutrition possible, having the cleanest purest water daily, and caring and love. The best solution is too not wait for these problems but to prevent them before they happen. I tell people that you cannot tell much about the true quality of pet food by the labels or great commercials on TV. I have researched Solid Gold pet food and feel that you will never find a cleaner, less allergic brand on the market. I also have concerns with giving many vaccines at one time to pets and believe it is less toxic to spread these out if they have to be given. One website I enjoy for finding home remedies for pets is www.earthclinic.com. I also am thrilled to inform you that we have Dr Colleen Smith DVM speaking on Pet Nutrition on Wednesday April 7th at Nutrition World. She is a holistic Veterinarian, certified in acupuncture and has vast experience in the area of pet nutrition and health. Don’t miss this FREE lecture. (I guarantee you that this is information you will not get from traditional sources or TV).
Question: In the confusing world of health where it seems one study contradicts another and each person I talk to has a different opinion, where do I go for honest information?
Answer: Everyone gives information based on their own perceptions but also because they may have a profit motive and this creates a situation where the truth is hard to see. Having a trusted source for information on health is crucial and the internet should be an important resource for everyone. We have computers in Nutrition World for you to use if you don’t have one of your own. The sites that I regularly use and trust are the following: www.mercola.com. www.lef.org www.nutritionw.com www.earthclinic.com www.vitasearch.com. I would recommend signing up for their email updates so you can receive new information as it comes out. (you must still not trust 100% of anything you read or hear)
I will post this information on www.nutritionworldblog.com for those who want to reference this article or any older Nutrition World emails.
